This year the main agenda item will be the development of a Parish Plan. A number of people and organizations have already expressed an interest in the plan The plan will focus on what we  wish to achieve for the future development of the Parish. Because this item will take some time, we regret that it will not be possible to take the usual reports from the organizations within the Parish. If you would like to let us have a written report in advance we will circulate it at the meeting. E-mail  arlingtonpc@freeuk.com

PARKMEAD

Park Mead juniors were visited last month by some ‘real’ Vikings to bring their topic work to life and the whole school enjoyed a magical Christingle Service at the church. The pupils all took part in a fabulous book week and were visited by authors and illustrators. The week also saw the official opening of the newly refurbished library with the ribbon being cut by two poster competition winners, joined by the author, Paul Geraghty and those children who are school librarians. The children loved the reading and illustrating workshops and the whole school spent a day dressed as their favourite book character.

The school travel plan has been accepted by ESCC and Park Mead has been awarded a grant to implement the plan. The funds will be used to alter the access point for pupils entering school grounds for greater pupil safety. Quotations to carry out the work are currently being sought.

PARISH COUNCIL

ELECTIONS

In May 2007 local elections will take place when voters in parishes, towns and district councils will elect their representatives. Arlington, like other parishes will be involved in the elections when local residents have the opportunity to stand for office and vote.  The parish council is at the grass roots of  Local Government in England. Parish Councils have a number of

responsibilities, including: representing the whole electorate within the parish; delivering

services to meet local needs; and striving to improve quality of life in the parish. The council is also the first point of contact for aspiring community projects. It is their responsibility to help get schemes underway. The Council must also be notified – and in some cases its consent is needed – by County or District Councils with regard to planning applications and highway development in your area. Parliament also granted Parish Councils the powers to spend public money that they raise through the parish precept. If you are interested in becoming a councillor contact the clerk.
