ARLINGTON PARISH COUNCIL

January 2007

FAREWELL NORMAN

Arlington Parish Clerk and Councillors clubbed together last month to give Norman Barnes a rousing send off at Upper Dicker’s Plough Inn.  (Thank you Plough for giving us a beautifully decorated private room to ourselves).

After continuous service on the Council for nearly twenty years, Norman has decided to resign his post and give someone else the opportunity of getting involved in parish affairs.  I am sure that Arlington residents would wish to join us in thanking Norman for his work over the years representing the community;  his wit and wisdom will be sorely missed on the council.

                        SEG
We will continue our use of  Speed Indicator Display (SID) in 2007 following 2 very successful weeks on 2006.
We still need volunteers to help operate SID and will be holding a further training event in April. If interested please contact the Safety & Environment Group  842 944

PARISH COUNCIL

JANUARY MEETING

Members of the public spoke about the state of the highway near Parkmead school, an intrusive sign and a community newssheet by the SEG. Other matters included a policy to make out comments on planning applications more comprehensive and there was a discussion regarding the additional properties being transferred to Arlington from 1st. April 2007.

QUALITY COUNCIL

We are pleased to report that Arlington Parish Council has been officially recognized as a Quality Council. East Sussex has only six other Parish/Town Councils so recognized.  To achieve this award. standards must be met for running Council Meetings, communicating with the public and having a  Qualified Clerk. Other measures include the production of an Annual Report, satisfactory Accounts and a code of conduct. It is satisfying to know that Arlington sets such high standards.

PARKMEAD

Seasonal activities kept Park Mead School children in the festive spirit during December. The nativity/carol concert held at the church saw stirring performances by pupils on recorder, clarinet and violin. The Friends Christmas Fayre raised £900 and the children especially enjoyed their ‘Christmas Tree Lunch’ for which the whole school made tree shaped sandwiches and biscuits followed by a healthy fruit salad. School governors kept up the annual tradition of joining staff in serving the pupils their Christmas dinner, wearing an assortment of festive headgear! Tracey Hunter, LEA Governor

THE ARLINGTON PARISH PLAN

On the 14th of December 2006, Arlington Parish Council resolved to initiate the process for the production of the Arlington Parish Plan.  Ray Collins agreed to act as the lead person in this matter.

The first activity will to create a small group, called the Parish Plan Initiation Group, that will prepare the ground for the Plan.

A wide consultation will take place between now and the Annual Parish meeting on the 26th April 2007.

A Parish Plan brings together the views, needs and opinions of the whole community.  All Parish Plans are different, as they are developed by each community in response to their own needs, using their unique skills and enthusiasm.  The Arlington Parish Plan will set out what we need and what we value, based on the opinions of the whole community.
