This will include consideration of a School Safety Zone and a possible 30 mph speed limit. Particular attention will be given to traffic at the crossroads formed by
This work is to be carried out by AMEY (formerly Owen Williams) of Lewes at the cost of £6,810. AMEY have considerable experience in this type of work, particularly in the East Sussex County Council area. The schedule indicates that a fully cost estimated scheme will be made available by the end of November 2007. This will enable the proposals to be considered by the Arlington Parish Council in January 2008. East Sussex County Council supports traffic calming in Upper Dicker but it is unlikely that any money will be available from County funds. Further funding by the Parish Council is likely to be limited. Other funding will be sought and it is understood that St Bede’s School may consider making a significant contribution.

The start of the school year has been marked by a revamp at Park Mead. The entrance to the infant playground has been altered to make it much safer and the school’s oak tree logo has been brought to life in a striking fashion with a line of colourful wooden trees along the front of
the school fence. A full complement of new reception class children are settling in well and the walking bus has seen its numbers grow to just under 30 pupils. There are several school trips planned during the busy term ahead and the children are already enjoying the diverse range of after-school clubs which take place every day.
OCTOBER PARISH
COUNCIL MEETING
The general consensus from members was that the guide was beautifully illustrated and a thoroughly researched document and that its observations accurately reflect many of the concerns for the environment that have been raised locally. The guidelines with respect to the need to control light pollution and to protect natural landscapes, flora and fauna in rural communities will be universally applauded as should the proposal that all new dwellings be obliged to incorporate energy saving and water conservation features. The Parish Council’s initial reaction to this guide is that the ‘ideal’ to which the authors are striving is highly commendable ……..
In the Parish Council’s response the following concerns were raised:
Flytipping - more composting and recycling facilities should be included on new development.
Parking – much more parking facilities should be included not only on the individual plots but on the general development.
Noise pollution – triple glazing should be included on those houses which front onto busy thoroughfares.
